Air Conditioning – General
Learn how we keep your home powered, comfortable, and safe.
BACK TO TOP ↑ How often should I service my air conditioning unit?›
To keep your air con system running efficiently and extend its lifespan, it's recommended to service your air conditioner once a year. Evaporative systems may require additional maintenance due to water and filter components.
What size air conditioning unit do I need for my home?›
The size of the aircon unit depends on factors such as the size of your home, insulation, ceiling height, and the number of rooms requiring cooling and heating. Our experts can conduct an assessment to recommend the most suitable size and type for your needs.
Why is my air conditioning system making strange noises?›
Unusual noises such as grinding, rattling, or hissing could indicate issues like loose parts, debris in the unit, or refrigerant leaks. It's best to turn off the unit and contact a professional to assess and repair it.
How much should I pay for an AC unit?›
Costs vary depending on the type, size, and brand of the unit, as well as ductwork and installation costs. Our Otter Air team can provide you with a custom quote tailored to your budget and needs.
My air conditioner isn't cooling properly – can you fix it?›
Yes – as long as it's a system we cover. We can repair issues with split systems, ducted systems, evaporative systems, and cassette systems. We do not service window box air conditioners. If you're unsure what type you have, send us a photo and we can check for you.
Can you install smart thermostats or remote-control systems?›
Yes, we install smart home compatible systems and can integrate your air conditioning with Wi-Fi controllers and smart home platforms.
Ducted Systems
Reverse cycle and evaporative ducted air conditioning installations.
BACK TO TOP ↑ What is involved in a ducted reverse cycle air conditioning installation?›
Ducted reverse cycle installation involves placing an indoor unit in the roof space, an outdoor compressor, and a network of ducts throughout the home. Our team handles everything from designing a layout to suit your home to ensuring a seamless installation with minimal disruption.
What is involved in a ducted evaporative air conditioning installation?›
Ducted evaporative installation involves placing a unit on the roof, connected to a dropper and flashing that pumps cool air through ducting and out of vents in each room. Larger rooms may require additional vents. Our team handles everything from layout design to completion.
Can you replace my ducted system with a newer model?›
Yes. In many cases we may even be able to use the existing ducting and vents, which reduces installation time and cost significantly. Call our team for advice.
Evaporative AC
Tips for getting the best from your evaporative cooling system.
BACK TO TOP ↑ How do I improve the performance of my evaporative cooling system?›
Regularly cleaning the cooling pads, ensuring sufficient ventilation by opening windows or doors, and scheduling annual maintenance checks can significantly improve performance and longevity. If your system is very old or undersized, it might be time for a replacement.
How often should I service my evaporative cooler?›
We recommend servicing your evaporative cooler at least once a year — ideally before summer. This includes cleaning the pads, checking the pump, and ensuring the water distribution system is working correctly.
